Review To be trully honest with you, I'm not a great fan of science-fiction movies. After all, it doesn't mean that I hated the movie. In fact, I personally think that ExistenZ is one of the greatest science-fiction movie of all time, because David Cronenberg, the movie's director, smartly explores a very interesting theme that concerns all of us: the danger of the evolution of communication technology. Obviously, the movie eXistenZ is certainly everything that The Matrix claims to be: an intelligent, thought provoking and challenging science-fiction movie. Let it be said that this fascinating movie smartly deals with the downside of the evolution of the communication technology. Even if this movie is an occasion for David Cronenberg to explore a very interesting theme that concerns all of us, this Canadian movie director perfectly shows us his talent for story telling (the story is a little bit hard to understand). In addition to that, the movie will certainly make you think a lot. With his talent, the movie director manages very well to show us that the communication technology can often distort the reality. Besides, this movie takes you to the place where many science-fiction movie don't even try to reach: the connection between reality and fiction. To go further, it should be said that the movie eXistenZ also relies on David Cronenberg's directing competence. The special effects, although there's not plenty of them, are very well done with computer assistance. Helping all this along is the interesting and carefully chosen cast. All are astoshingly good, but I really like Willem Dafoe's creepy garage mechanic, Jude Law and Jennifer Jason Leigh form a very good team and Canadian actor Don McKellar is great in the enigmatic "Russian" Yevgeny. Finally, if you're looking for a smart science-fiction movie, I would recommend you eXistenZ, because it's one of the best science-fiction movie I've seen during my whole life. Even if the Canadian movies are not particularly popular in the world, I believe that eXistenZ will eventually be recognised for what it is: a work of great imagination with a rare complexity. |
