it seems like Google wants to try replacing wikipedia:

http://knol.google.com/

apparently, the articles are written by "authoritative authors" which is stupid because people who understand subjects well or discover things are not likely to be good at explaining them.

i dont think it'll ever beat wikipedia: wikipedia's free as in freedom, knol isn't
