Guess who's back? Yes, it's me, your favourite amateur columnist! Ok, seriously, I'm just joking. It's been a month that I haven't post a kind of article on PC Realm, due to my mountainous pile of homeworks given by my college teachers. As a oversea Asian, I have always been fascinated by the difference between the West and the East, since I was a child. Like most people who are dying to open their mind to many field of knowledges, I was bewildered after I've read Sun Tzu's The Art of War, because it allowed me to discover that the Asian and the Westerners don't have the same conception about war.

Since the West have discovered the Asian cinema (maybe with great displeasure for some people), it is very funny to see that we, as Westerners, do have a false conceptions about Asian culture. My personnal thoughts have brought me to think that one of the most brilliant thing that we can hope to achieve is to establish a clear and precise dialog with the East, not that we are having a hard time with establishing a dialog, but we are just facing a very complex world that the East is.

Since some Asian countries are starting to definitely stand up, economically speaking, it's quite great to see that most Westerners, just like me, have a craze for the discovery of any given Asian country. Furthermore, I'm convinced that the more we discover about the "ass kickers' continent", as we like to call Asia, the more we are launched beyond the veil of conceptions that are all made up. What? You don't even know that our old folks like to produce dramatic movies and most of them are internationally acclaimed, mind you? Aw come on! Shame on you! No really, I guess that as the time flies, we can hope that our children will grow in a Western society that is less built on false conceptions and in my opinion, the eradication of false conceptions is the key for establishing successfully a clear and precise conversation between the West and the East.

Speaking about literature, I am not surprised that in most of our English or French school books, many of the North and South American and European authors are mentionned, as for Asia, it is often mentionned in the book that "Asian literature is not well known, but these few authors are known [...]". Honestly, reading that passage while I was in High school never made me mad. I personally think that we, as opposed to the French (hey, guess what? I've already been in France), live in a lightly centralistic society, that means that we often don't dare to push the boundaries of our knowledges further than Europe. Hopefully, the Canadian society is not as centralistic as the American society... Well, actually I feel optimistic that in a very near future, we, as Westerners, will be able to tear to pieces the thick veil between the West and the East. To be continued

Cheers,
Hidden Dragon

This article is really interesting, instead to have fear towards Asia and Eastern civilisations, we should interest ourselves to their authors and their literature... I think this won't be so difficult because Asia is growing economically and its influence on the world also. I wish Americans will see that there are other people and other culture than theirs in the world.
