Hello guys,

I am quite sure that amongst the members of PC Realm, there's some fans of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Obviously, I have read all those books of these series and I just wanted to have your opinion on fantasy novels, generally speaking. To be very honest with you, most fantasy novels make me cringe (it doesn't mean that I am relying on intellectual prejudices) because most of them are too repetitive, but I am sure that if someone says that fantasy novels are pathetic, a high school friend of mine will start screaming (where are you hiding Maude?)

Fantasy is a way for me to get out of reality when I'm bored. Don't get me wrong though, I still prefer reality most of the time.

I agree that those books help us to escape from reality. I read the 2 latest HP novels (I must admit that it was a kind of waste of time) and I just found them fine.

Comparing to LOTR, HP's pace is faster and the author is not giving the odd feeling that you're definitely wasting your time while you are flipping the pages. Seriously, I really wonder why Tolkien has bothered to insert long poems and songs that create so much long periods? All that being said about LOTR, I think that I would rather watch the three movies, although the third part is the less of good of all.

Quoting hiddendragon:

Not alot of people will agree with you... I thought the first one was half boring.

I am entirely sure that not everybody will agree with me. However, I must admit that the action scenes were pretty good, but it looks like certain scenes could have been deleted. For instance, some of HP's novels are, I must admit, a little bit long, but the script writer doesn't include absolutely all the scenes (by relying on the novels) and whereas for LOTR, it looks like the script writers took the decision to insert absolutely every single scenes (that feeling gets stronger in the third part of LOTR). OK, I am not saying that HP is better than LOTR, because I consider them, on an objective judgement, equal and that's what I have to say.
