Hey guys,
Recently, I haven't read any articles about video games that should be coming soon (except for the new NHL), but I just want to know what is your ideal video games based on Second World War? From my personal experience, I can tell you that I have tried many of those kind of games, but I have come to think that they are a little bit too repetitive, regardless of the innovations that they bring to the first-person shooting games.

During summer, I had the occasion to play a very exciting game called Call of Duty. Obviously, the game brings a lot of innovations that give you the feeling that you are really facing the appalling reality of the war, but unfortunately you always play the same roles (you live the war through the eyes of an American soldier, a British soldier called James and finally, a Russian from the Red Army), you are always helped by the same sidekicks (British spies, OSS agents, members of resistance groups, German traitors, soldiers, etc.) and you always face the same vilains (i.e. the Nazis).

It would be so much better if a video game on Second World War takes place uniquely in Asia and you will get to face Japanese soldiers who are willing to fight inch by inch on their occupied territories as an Asian. Honestly, if I had to create a video games on Second World War that takes place in Asia, I will divide the game like this (just like in Call of Duty):

Original version:
1) China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan): A member of the Kuomintang.
2) Korea: Member of the Korean Resistance Movement.
3) Indochina: The war seen through the eyes of a Vietminh member who is also assisted by Laotians and Cambodians rebels.

Expansion version:
1) Philippines: A member of the Philippinos Resistance movement.
2) Thailand: You are now a Thai patriot.
3) Indonesia
4) Singapore

Ok that's my opinion, and I know that it is a lot of mission for a war game. Let's hear your opinion.

There's a game called Medal of Honor: Pacific assault... I never saw the game, but looking at the title, it might have something to do in Asia. For the VietNam war, there's Battlefield Vietnam. You're right about how many repetitive WWII games out there involving the Western world, but it's normal because most of the first person shooter game makers are from an North American or European comapnies, so it's pretty normal that they aim the game at the gamers from these two continents. Yet, I almost never heard any fps games from Asia. Maybe there is, but they don't sell them here.

Sure, the game Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault might take place in Asia, but I'm sure that this event of the Second World War is seen through the eyes of an American soldier. Speaking about the game Call of Duty, I saw that it was divided into three parts: American, British and Russian. The part that I liked the most is the second part in which you are portraying a British soldier who is named James (not Bond!), because the mission are so different in the second part (sabotages, destruction, infiltration, stealing...).

As for Medal of Honor, I played the original version on X-Box. My personal thoughts is that the game's graphic is amazingly realistic, but in terms of historical content, MOH is not as rich as Call of Duty (the best of the best!). Seriously, during the Normandy Landings, the number of soldiers wasn't as huge as you see it in movies (I almost thought that I was hanging out with a dozen of friends in a private place!), but the next missions are okay, and the German costume are very different (Nazi soldiers, German cooking chef who throws knife, German butlers if your mission is in a mansion,...).

I have also heard that a game on the war in Somalia (1991 or 1993?) has been done.

history repeats itself

I like realistic war games since you actually feel part of it.

Who doesn't like realistic war games? No seriously, I was just saying that I was a little bit tired of "living" the Second World War through the eyes of a Westerner. I'll just remind you that the War also took place in Asia and I would be very pleased if I had the occasion to live the war in Asia (not through the eyes of an American, a British or a French) by playing the role of an Asian, regardless of his nationality.

The only thing missing is a MMOFPS WWII game... but even so, you can count me out. I never bought games that needs me to keep paying after purchase.
