Hello everybody!
I really don't know how to open this debate, but I really want to have your opinion on this question. Personally, I believe that many Asian masterpieces are too hard to understand for average Westerners (again, this is not an insult). For instance, I don't understand why some people are saying that such movies like "Hero", "House of Flying Daggers" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" suck hard.

When I ask them why they didn't like it, they merely say that the movie's fight scenes are so unrealistic. So what, don't you guys have a basic knowledge about Chinese culture and literary beliefs? You just think that martial arts movie should really suck hard like "Ong-Bak" or any Bruce Lee's movies? Like I said I'm just waiting to see your opinions?

No movie can appeal to everyone. Maybe they don't understand or they know little about the culture. Other people maybe prefers movies from another culture... Like western (cowboy) movies, I don't think these kinds of movies are enjoyed by everyone, but there are certainely some western movies fans out there...

Right. Many of us have also grown up watching Western movies (or reading novels) about musketeers and all those sword stuff. It is important to know that the Asian artistic convention are way different from the Western convention.

For instance, unlike the Western artistic convention, Asian movie makers or writers have the liberty to use unrealism. As opposed to Westerners, Asian people do believe in "unhuman" physical strength. Obviously, those things only exist in our imagination (a world that only exist in order to allow us to escape from reality). At least, it's better than watching a Western movie in which sharp shooters don't even know how to shoot.

So, watching an Asian movie for a Westerner is like having a cultural dialog with the East.
